Artist Statement

Although I also paint natural flora, the human face remains the focus of my work. The contemporary free-form face identifies my subject, but it is a vehicle for the eyes which are a metaphor for the soul.

Giving life to people from the past that have left their indelible mark on humanity is humbling. The scale of my paintings parallel these larger than life icons. The edges of the canvas isolate these recognizable faces igniting their narrative interpretation. Emerging from the darkness (as in dark ground to light on canvas), suddenly there they are in my studio looking out at me. It's a fascinating process.

As I paint, I feel my mind and hand in synchrony guided by a connection to impressions from another dimension. We are all linked to a universal intelligence, how else would one explain da Vinci, Mozart, Einstein or Stephen Hawking. We spend our lives in three spatial dimensions ignorant of the possibility of something greater. Although these higher realms may not be visible their ripples can be felt.
